Valentine's Day 2012

Every February 14, around the world, gifts are exchanged between lovers. The tradition is in memory of Saint Valentine. St. Valentine was a Christian Martyr and, according to belief, the Roman Emperor Claudius II tried to persuade him to give up on his religion and convert to Roman paganism. Valentine refused and, after trying to convert Claudius to Christianity, was executed. Before his death, Valentine healed the blind daughter of his jailer – this was approved by the Vatican as a miracle.

Saint Valentine's Day, more often called Valentine's Day, is the annual commemoration of this Christian martyr. It has become the day where traditionally lovers express their feelings for each other by presenting giving gifts.

Valentine’s Day is now recognised as a great time to give promotional gifts to clients and employees. This has become another time in the year where recognition is given to those who support the giver of the gifts. Valentine's Day icons include the hearts, doves, and Cupid.

Gifts suggested include any item that is customisable – by way of branding. In business situations it is advisable to remain fairly distant with the gift selection and not get too personal [as you would for a personal lover]. In the case of business related gifts it is often thought to be more practical to select ‘sweets and chocolates’ in preference to other items. However, key rings, pens and the more modern selection of flowers are good alternatives.
